Default NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Cuda - No way to install driver?

    Hello from Austria!

I'm trying to get my NVIDIA card working on my new Acer Aspire 5755G and Backtrack 5 64bit KDE. I'm not absolutely new to Backtrack and Linux so I tried a lot of
    hints I found with google.
    I performed following steps:

Booted BT5 from my USB-Drive and then installed it to my HDD

    #apt-get install inux-source-2.6.38
    #prepare-kernel-sources
    #cd /usr/src/linux
    #cp -rf include/generated/* include/linux
    #sh NVIDIA-driver.run /* driver from nvidia-page */

The installation was succesful but trying startx says that no screens were found.

I added <BusID "PCI: 1:0:0"> to my xorg.conf after checking with lspci but nothing changed.

I hope someone can help me with my problem.

    Thanks a lot,

    Patrick

Did you uninstall nouveau driver and blacklisted it before installing the nVidia driver?

You might have conflicts...You have to first uninstall nouveau...

I believe your laptop makes use of Nvidia's Optimus Technology. That means you will only be able to use your Intel Video Card for graphics in BT5, AFAIK (Unless you have an option on your BIOS to disable the Intel card). You can still make use of CUDA technology with tools like pyrit or oclhashcat, but graphics will have to be handled by your Intel card (which, IMO, is awesome because it frees all the resources on the Nvidia card).

Follow this guide, it worked for me, I have a Lenovo Y570 with a Geforce M555.
you will need to install bumblebee, bbswitch, Nvidia Cuda toolkit.

Thanks for your answers. The nvidia card isn't working but I got the Intel working. I followed this tutorial: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/ac.../#post-3117807 It's not the best solution but better than nothing.

I have a Intel I7 Quad Core Sandybridge.

    Best regards
