lol tell me about it, i put my hand up cant belive i just did that.

ok the ath0 cannot be located, it just doesnt exist, thats whats confused me so much, its been ages since i used the v1.0. anyways it doesnt exist.

Could it be anything to do with installing to HDD. i created ext2 partiotn 2.9gb installed and edited the lilo to re-add the xp boot partition. The lilo menu works fine. but could there be a problem somewhere? thought i would mention it

So bt boots up fine and you can "startx' and get the kde desktop right?
Have you checked for obvious things like the anttenna is switched on?

Next try the wireless assistant gui in the internet menu?

next open a shell and type ifconfig ath0 up

then at the next prompt type dhcpcd ath0

    then try posting the results

the next step is to install the latest madwifi drivers but OMG that is gonna be hard in comparison the the learning curve we have already experianced.

In your next post give the excact make and model of your computer. what you put was not right.I cant find shit about packard bell laptops having a internal atheros chipset

EDIT: ok I take that back I found this on the wiki but its not yours

    Packard-Bell
    [edit] Easynote w7200

    * Runs fine with no extra parameters, after installing nvidia drivers set up resolution.

    [edit] Easynote MZ35-V-065

Build-in Atheros chipset. !!!works great whith Aireplay. You need with the latest version 0.9.1, 52.000 ivs to crack a 128 bit wep key. Aircrack took about 1/2 sec to crack the key. (Insert Modulle for sound on this laptop.)

Yeah startx no problem, no problem dual booting

ifconfig ath0 = ath0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device
dhcpcd ath0 just results in nothing.
and the wireless assistant finds no usable devices.

I have these two files madwifi-0.9.3.1.tar.bz2 and madwifi-0.9.3.1.tar.gz

Thanks again, i think im getting over my embarresment, however, i feel it may take you longer, helping someone like myself lol

OK was just teaching my other half how to manipulate the alt text in a forum she is on, which she thinks is hilarious. (It keeps her quiet, and out of my hair)

Just so as we are working from a known starting point, as we don't know what else you have done to the install.
Boot from the cd, login and try those commands and tell us what happens.
