Well, is your graphics-card driver installed?
Hi all, just switched to BT5R1, been on archlinux for about 2 years..
but i remember back in my Ubuntu days, there were settings for graphics acceleration on Lucid.
I want to enable the KDE desktop effects (such as wobbly windows and desktop cube etc.), but when I try, i get a kwin window manager notification in the bottom right telling me that some (all) effects could not be activated...
I tried to use compiz as my WM but that didnt work either, so Im thinking its some kind of graphics acceleration settings...
compositing state is 'desktop effects are active'
anyhow, my graphics card is: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce 9600M GT] (rev a1)
and my laptop is a HP Pavilion DV5..
any help is much appreciated![]()
Well, is your graphics-card driver installed?
I think not, and I'm not sure how as there is no driver manager (Additional drivers or Hardware drivers) like in ubuntu.. I'm guessing your right, but what's the best way to find my driver? On arch it was just pacman -S nvidia (I'm not on my computer at the moment) but I shall try apt-get instal nvidia tomorrow. Cheers.
well, i have tried to install my nvidia driver, i used this method here: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ad.php?t=40497 but when i startx i get the same error as a few people in this thread > "no screen found"
I have downloaded my driver from the nvidia website, but when trying to install it (while in tty) the installer tells me it cannot stop the current driver.. I even tried the script to disable it offered by the installer, but to no avail.. is there any way i can force disable the stock vga drive to install my nvidia one?
In your xorg.conf you can change the driver from "nvidia" to "nv".
