BT 5 R2 - Ralink 2870/3070 no longer supported

Hi,

I've just discovered that the Ralink 802.11 nWlan - Chipset RT2870/3070, RT2800 usb is no longer supported. To be more precisely this chipset is delivered with ALFA uBo device.

It has been tested with both BT R2 vmware images, Gnome edition 32 and 64 bit.

As an example Kismet shows: Source "wlan0": channel get ioctl failed 22: Invalid argument.

Also I've tried to enable the monitor using CLI: airmon-ng start wlan0. The mon0 became active but invoking the command airodump-ng mon0 doesn't bring any results so something is wrong.

According to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bt.conf the rt2870sta and rt2860sta drivers are blacklisted. You could try whitelisting or removing them from the blacklist and see if that helps. YMMV.

This was verified on BT5 R2 KDE 32-bit if that makes any difference.

I'm using the rt2800usb driver on RC2 32bit gnome and it seem to work right out of the box for me. I just can't seem to get my pci Atheros AR9285 driver working with WEP.

Define not working with WEP. Are you unable to collect IVs? Problems with injection?

I am not able to connect to the internet when using wicd if using WEP. It keep saying unable to obtain ip address. It works when you use aircrack tools though. I been checking around on the net and many people are saying its a bug with 3.2.6

Thanks! but whilelisting the RT2870 doesn't make any difference unfortunately. The behavior is the same as first time. I'll keep my eyes and ears piled for fresh news / workarounds though.

im having the same problem. using an alfa awus036nh, work with airmon-ng, but if i test it with aireplay-ng it doesn't find any aps, and airodump doesnt find anything. in windows it finds around 30 aps with no issue.

been playing with it for a few days now, and google has run out of potential solutions.

tried backtrack 5 rc2 in both kde and gnome flavours, as well as ubuntu 12 full updated with the latest compat-wireless drivers (3.4rc3). doing it all in virtualbox in a windows 7 x64 environment. all of the attempts find the card fine though and load the correct rt2800usb driver and airmon sets up mon0 with no issue. tried an apt-get install firmware-ralink though and that didn't work.

out of the 100s of attempts to get it to work, it worked once when i used the airoscript-gui in bt5 kde, but i've been unable to replicate that success.
