No the backtrack having lot of kernal modification and injection patch so dont upgrade
Hi,
I'm using BackTrack 5 R1.
root@bt:~# cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.39.4 (root@builder64) (gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu 4.4.3-4ubuntu5) ) #1 SMP Wed Aug 17 21:42:30 EDT 2011
I want to know if the Kernel is specifically compiled for BackTrack or it is a standard Kernel? What are the best steps to upgrade it to 3.2.5?
thanx in advance

Personally, I wouldn't do the kernel upgrade. BackTrack is a custom distro, and upgrading the kernel on your own may break some tools.
If I could figure out how to scuba dive & hack at the same time, there would be nothing I couldn't do...
thanx guys for your help
I think you could do it. Never mind that all patches and so on, cause the one or two you need can be done manually within doing that.
But scottm99 is right. Its like the new kernel could break some tools cause dependencies could be uninstalled/changed.
Wait until 1st March, BT5R2's launch date. It will include kernel 3.2.4 (info @ http://twitter.com/backtracklinux)
thanx snayler.. I'm going waiting for the R2 release
thanx gn0xter.. It seems that I'm going to install bt on vmware and try the kernel upgrade to see what will happened
