Hello all,

Running BackTrack 5 from USB

I have a Dell XPS 15z:

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2640M processor 2.80 GHz
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M 2GB graphics with Optimus
8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz Memory
Intel© Centrino© Advanced-N 6230 & Bluetooth 3.0


When I try to boot from my USB,
after I chose the Kernel, it loads some stuff, but I always get a Black screen,

I've tried to use the command nomodeset, noapic acpi=off, and many others.

also to change text splash vga=791-- to text splash vesa--

also the BackTrack no DRM ( with this kernell I have an error instead of the black screen:
(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system )


Am I missing something?

I don't know if this helps, but I'm stuck with the exact same problem as you. I'm having a Dell 15z as well, but I can't get it to work either.
At least I was able to get Ubuntu 11.10 running. So I guess there could be still hope for us two.
Let me know if you find smth out.

I've read the wiki ubuntu, tried the boot commands, nothing worked.


I've downloaded the BT5r1 ISO GNOME 64bit and made a USB live with unetbootin.

same problems...


any new ideas?

Hello guys!

I seem to have the same problem. First I installed Ubuntu 12.04 Prcise and nor the trackpad or the keyboard was working. Since I have the Dell XPS 15z (with the 2 graphic cards, Nvidia and Intel), there would also be a problem with the graphics.

So I had to surf on the internet and boot with some non-default options (nouveau.blacklist=1 and acpi=noirq). After this everything worked, including the trackpad and the keyboard and I wrote these comands on the grub loader so that these are the options that should be loaded every time I start Ubuntu.

Now BackTrack is kind of the same as Ubuntu (with this I mean that the way the drivers work is similar, not the extra pentesting software) and I thought that making the same things that I made in Ubuntu would make the trackpad work, but it seems that nothing can repair it or get it to work. What the hell BackTrack? Not knowing touchpad drivers for one of the best laptops in the market? This is one of the basic stuff!

Please give me a link of some site that would show me how to repair my trackpad. I don't want to walk around with a mouse in my pocket...
