No need to apologise. My replies to your posts take days to appear on this forum possibly because I am a newbie and do not post much.

I am very pleased to see the TX-Power issue has been resolved for you. I do not, so far as I am aware, suffer from random disconnects from my AP. I am not able to test it at the moment as I lent my Ralink 3070 radio to a friend.

For your information I did find that using a Windsurfer Parabolic Reflector made a big difference to performance. See http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/ The template I used is here: www.aegisarts.com/wifi/ez12.pdf

I see you apply the mac80211 fragmentation patch. Does the fragmentation attack work for you? You can test it if you have a second wifi radio:

    aireplay-ng -9 -i wlan1 wlan0

see the section Attack Tests here: http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=injection_test

Will get into fragmentation attack later on.. I just applied the patch as it was mentioned in the aircrack-ng site hence I applied it.

This is what I have done to remedy my random disconnection from AP.

    1. Uninstall the bleeding age version (http://linuxwireless.org/download/co...-07-03.tar.bz2).. the command to use
    Code:
    make uninstall
    make unload
    2. Install the last stable version of compat-wireless from here:
    http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/comp...-rc5-1.tar.bz2

    3. Before installing do everything as mentioned on post #28
    4. Fix reg.c from here: http://pastebin.com/EAdhXJbd
    5. Then install compat-wireless-3.5-rc5-1 by running these commands:
    Code:
    make clean
    make
    make install
    make wlunload
    Reboot

This seems to fix the random disconnection issue I have..

However I have issues with injection: Please see the output of aireplay injection test output of on board wifi card (AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter : driver used ath9k) vis a vis AWUS036NH

mon0 is from onboard atheros card

    Code:
    root@bt:~/scripts# aireplay-ng -9 mon0

    10:39:37 Injection is working!

and now from the AWUS036NH card

    10:38:57 30/30: 100%
As you see that the onboard card (@ 15dBm) had done much better than the AWUS036NH card where as this AWUS036NH card is at Tx-Power 30dBm

    Any idea any one...

    Hi Hannah,

The TX Power patch is reported NOT to work in a post this morning on the RT2x00 driver developers mailing list, see http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/piper...ly/005145.html

I am also unsure if the fragmentation attack works with the Ralink 3070 radio. I am unable to test it as I am without my radio for a couple of weeks. I suggest you test it and if it does not work remove that patch.

The best course of action, IMO, is to email the RT2x00 mailing list with full details (kernel versions, compat-wireless) of your testing work to date and work with them toward a comprehensive solution: users@rt2x00.serialmonkey.com

As it is a mailing list, generally response is faster than on here and, of course, you are directly addressing the developers that write, and fix bugs in, the driver code.

Ok I almost forgot about this thread. Anyway..I have tried various version of compat-wireless and had mixed success. I have suffered intermittent disconnection. Currently I have no compat-wireless driver install so basically I am running vanilla driver that come with BT. By the way my version of BT is this:
    Linux bt 3.2.6 #1 SMP Fri Feb 17 10:34:20 EST 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    BT5 R3.

I now have disabled Wicd Network Manager. You can do it by running:

    Code:
    root@bt:~# rcconf
and then finding the wicd service and untick it.

    Or manually

    Code:
    root@bt:~# /etc/init.d/wicd stop
    Then I have installed
    http://projects.gnome.org/NetworkManager/

    Code:
    root@bt:~# apt-get install network-manager
That solved my intermittent connection dropping issues. I now have continuous wifi connection and it never drops.
At least this works for me.
