Most likely a magnet in the display somewhere that is tripping a hall effect sensor on the mobo. See if another magnet is more attracted to one spot on the display than the rest

thats a good idea, i think i ask acer bevor i try to locate the magnet. in the moment i have only a 3kg magnet here... when i use this, i must reinstall all... :==)

Kinda hard to wardrive on your bike with the laptop open in your backpack.

True dat. The trick I used to prevent it from totally closing is by placing a book beteween the keyboard and the lid

Wouldn't look any worse then when you go back to use the open network(s) and have to sit there with your laptop balanced on yer handlebars.

I've been wardriving since at least Feb of 2004, that's what Wigle tells me anyway, and I've never connected to any of those networks. There are legitimate reasons to have your laptop running in your bag, just as there are illegitimate reasons.

Half the older guys on here used to post on the netstumbler forums too, streaker69 included. I just use my phone these days, there are some great tools out there for android users.

I use wiglewifi. I really need to get my hacked wrt54g working again. Then I'd have kismet running instead of basically netstumbler.
