The most important part to remember is that you have to preform a clean shutdown of your Windows machine before attempting the BackTrack install.

Will this procedure work for win7?

I'm really new to both Backtrack and Linux, but I was following the instructions in the how-to for dual-booting Backtrack with Win7 already installed. I got the ISO burned for latest rev of Backtrack, booted to it, got to the grub loader, and got a ton of errors no matter which option I chose. Then a prompt, and "startx" got me nowhere.

Any advice appreciated.

i have using BT since the day of BT 3....before the era of GUI installation all setup and configuring just using the CMD fully i repeat CMD fully but thanks to the BT developers and community for making the BT more friendly user and more stable. i try to install the BT3 and i success it in 5 days ...thanks to my supreme boss. before try to installing BT to desktop or Notebook please try ask someone or ask uncle Google about it. follow this link maybe it will you Dual Boot happy hunting!!!
