Default Persistent USB - Computer won't shut down

Well I just got backtrack working on my 8GB USB flash drive using the instructions on the Wiki. I made the persistent USB using VirtualBox running a live CD version of BT5.

I have an HP pavilion laptop if that makes a difference.

The persistent mode and everything works fine but when I go to click shutdown it comes up with this:

I press ctrl+alt+del and press 'enter' and it shows this, but I wait for 15 minutes and nothing happens.

(Mods: I don't know how to put these images in spoilers or something like that. It won't let me have attachments so I had to use BB codes, which as you can see takes up a lot of space.)
