Backtrack & Windows - Question about sharing XAMPP files.

Hello there. My name's Mauro and I'm from Argentina. Glad to meet this great community and sorry if I mess up something, this is my first post and, as said in the what to post and what not sticky, my question is long and doesn't fit really well on other forums. So here it goes:

I am a switcher, I have changed my main OS (Windows XP) to Backtrack a while ago and even it is not recommended, I use it as an every day OS. I have both systems installed because I live with my girlfriend and she uses it for her games and stuff like that, right? Until here, everything is ok, since she uses windows and when she finishes, I use Backtrack.

The trouble is that, I also run some servers for my clients with XAMPP. There you may see my point, my girlfriend can play awesomely with XAMPP running on background without even noticing it. Also, I can use Backtrack with it running without trouble.

My question then is, Is there a way to share the same htdocs folder for both servers? (XAMPP is set in both systems, each one with their own htdocs folder), say, for example, on another partition readable by both systems?

I know, may be a silly, stupid and complicated noob question, but I would like to know that before I try experimenting something.

I think that way I can always run the server being cut only when trying to switch OS. If some of you have a better idea, I would gladly read.

You could...
1. In Backtrack, make a fixed mount point for your windows partition with fstab, mount it in /mnt or wherever you want. Then move the contents of your Backtrack XAMPP folder over to your windows XAMPP folder and symlink to that in Backtrack, which should work fine. Or...

2. Create a separate partition altogether for sharing data, which I'd recommend formatting to either NTFS or Fat32 because Windows has AWFUL Ext support. Then move all of the XAMPP data to that.

Either one should work fine. Best of luck.

Thanks in first place for taking the time to kindly answer on a such long post.

1. I will try this out, since it seems at least in my reasoning, legit. Nice idea.

2. I did it, and yes, we agree that Whistler has AWFUL support (on almost everything). After some few tries it was settled, but was tooperfect to be true: Access Denied! (Xampp can reach the server files located on the NTFS partition, I can even delete them, but it doesn't seem to have permissions for reading it).

I also tried on right-clicking properties and then on permissions, but as soon as I change a single thing, it becomes again the last default value even if I manage to apply it. (I know, like in Mac, that I have to settle "Other Users" to "Read" since Apache uses another user - nobody, I think - for running the server and does not seem to have access to it).

I don't know if that's either a Backtrack bug or what, but doesn't let me change anything (logged as root!)

Ill try your first statement and comment what happened.
