Yeah i have the same problem too! Same laptop and everything! ITS KILLING ME!!!!
When i try to boot bt5 from 16G flash drive, my computer gives me an error of unable to find a medium containing a live file system.
My laptop is Dell XPS 15, and I have followed the tutorial in http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/...Persistent_USB
I have tried to reinstall BT5 KDE and GNOME multiple times, but the problem didn't go away.
Anyone know why and how to fix it?

I use "UNetbootin" with great success to install the iso to a thumb drive.
What type of USB device are you using?
It's likely not an issue and what I'm about to describe is likely totally unrelated but it might be worth trying a different brand/model of USB device. I recently found out (after lots of problems and searching) that Verbatim Store'n'go media reports strange drive geometry which causes parted/gparted to crash during Ubuntu 10.x.x installs.
I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.
I know I seem harsh in some of my replies. SORRY! But if you're doing something illegal or posting something that seems to be obvious BS I'm going to call you on it.
