Here are some suggestions: first of all, verify the MD5 hash of your download against the MD5 from the download area. Next, check your hardware against the BT wiki & the hardware compatibility list forum. You might also try a different download...if you're trying to install the 64-bit gnome version, try the 64-bit KDE version, etc. Another option would be to install another o/s on the laptop, and try running BT5 as a virtual machine (using the VM download).
