You can try to use the nouveau driver. Which works very well with nvidia.
Or try to install the linux source and use the proprietary driver.

Dear carbonfiber, I have a nvidia card (8700m GT --NBF Mobile) did you make sure to first close your session of X and use the appropriate chmod parameters. For instance after i close the session of X i type: chmod +x [filename] and then sudo ./[filename] to install my drivers.
-good luck
CarbonFiber, Sup!
Have you tried looking for the driver out of the actual site itself to download?
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us
Under the "OPERATING SYSTEM" section select "Linux 32bit"
And download it (dont install yet) =] then Restart your computer and When you log back into your BT5. (before you type startx) type
"sh NV" and press TAB on your keyboard, Then press ENTER and continue the installation there.
After its done. I believe it should be done =] type "startx"
If it still doesn't work... I tried my best :/
