Unhappy Going crazt with Broadcom 4313 wifi card

    Hi there ,

    how you doind ?

i hope you are all doing well

okay , i installed the latest version of backtrack which is bt5 r1
with the kernel 2.6.39.4 built on ubuntu

i completed now 24 hours of working hard just to enable the os
    to use wifi connection

    only wired connection works

i tried to download the driver maunally from here :
    http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php

but i couldn't install it , this error shows when i try to install :
    Code:
    KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
    make: *** [all] Error 2
then tryed to use this way :
    System==>admin==>Hardware drivers

i found that broadcom driver is not activated
when i click on activate it gives me :
    Code:
Sorry, installation of this driver failed.

Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log
and those are the last lines in the log file :
    Code:
    2011-11-03 03:27:48,637 WARNING: /sys/module/wl/drivers does not exist, cannot $
2011-11-03 03:27:48,645 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm4$

    $rg.conf driver matches
    i tryed :
    /etc/init.d/networking start
    /etc/init.d/wicd start

still same problem , when i use wicd , it doesn't search for networks
just tells me no networks found

i found also a patch for wl , it didn't work also , gives me some error

please , can any one help me with this ?

i think the problem is with the kernel , how can i downgrade the kernel from
    2.6.39.4 to 2.6.38 ?

    Thank you

i am not a broadcom card user, i use alfas only (and have nothing but good things to say about them, mostly anyway). i preface this post as such, only because I cannot test this for you.

it appears as though it still remains a driver issue, before jumping to the conclusion a kernel downgrade is necessary. and noone has helped you with this yet. you need the bcm43xx driver installed properly.

    try this:

    root@bt:~# apt-get install b43-fwcutter

it will automatically install both the driver and the proper firmware for/to the bcm43xx card at this point.

you can research this on your own prior to doing so. don't take my word for it because i simply cannot test this as I do not use a Broadcom card. I think you will find it to be the ticket closer though.

    Hope this helps you,

    c

Default AW: Going crazt with Broadcom 4313 wifi card

    hey guys

i'm pretty new to linux and i have the same problem.
i have an alienware m17xr3 with a DW 1501 wireless card (broadcom)
while installing the driver i got the same error code and also apt-get b34-fwcutter didnt work for me
my wireless card is displayed as eth1 instead of wlan0 and iwconfig says that there is no wireless extension.
im running bt5r1 over vmplayer and i also tried it with virtualbox but with the same effect.
is there any solution except for getting and usb device?

    Hello comrades,

I'm getting the same errors in my HP Dv6 Laptop, I've tried the exact same things
but did not make any progress after all... Isn't there any other driver manager, maybe a little more automated?

Maybe we can focus at MAKE command (Error 2), but I still can't find any solution for that eighter...

    I'm stumped, any ideas? :C

Ok, you guys may already know this website :
http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/?go=home, it is about the bcm43xx-fwcutter tool, did anyone have any success with this?

It requires some very specific setup, if anyone could make this work please help us out... I am also going 'crazt' with this wireless adapter...

Cool Re: Going crazy with Broadcom 4313 wifi card

I went crazy with the Broadcom 4313 too...as of 1 hr ago, mine finally works. :0D

Bottom line up front: it's looks like a bug and there is a workaround in two .deb packages for the drivers and the modaliases.

    The hardware: HP dv6, Quad core AMD X64, Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4727]

    The bug:
    http://osdir.com/ml/ubuntu-bugs/2011-11/msg22140.html
Essentially, this bug kicks in when Ubuntu 10.04 LTS gets a higher rev kernel...makes sense; the same wireless card in my laptop works under WIN7 and a stock Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS installation with a 2.6.32 krnl. Disappears untder BT5R1 KDEx64 with a 2.6.39.4 krnl. (chose KDE because the audio works)
NB! Make sure you read this bug post.

    The Workaround:
Follow the links on the bug page for your architecture under the section:
"Download and install the latest version of the bcmwl 5.60.* driver (from Ubuntu 10.10 updates):"

Grab the two appropriate .deb files from the "BUILT FILES" section. Mine were as follows:
    bcmwl-kernel-source_5.60.48.36+bdcom-0ubuntu5_amd64.deb (875.7 KiB)
    bcmwl-modaliases_5.60.48.36+bdcom-0ubuntu5_amd64.deb (10.2 KiB)

Let gdebi do her thing and reboot.

After 3 days of rummaging around in Dr. Google's garage, and a full day of jockey-gtk failure, i finally found the wrench that fits. It was that simple. <sigh>

    The Caveats:
--INJECTION STILL WILL NOT WORK ON THE BCM4313 ...you still need to go external for that (but at least it works for 'normal' net activity)
--my adapter showed up as eth1...but iwconfig still sees the extentions...
--i am using wicd in the gui to bring it up

Hope this brings you some peace,
    Ohtar
