I have a Sony Vaio UX280P. I installed Backtrack 5 as the only operating system onto it. After restarting, I have this problem:
sky2 0000:06:00.0: eth0: Link is down
sky2 0000:06:00.0: eth0: Link is up at 100Mbps, half duplex, flow control none
It repeats this message over and over again. I have tried searching in other forums for a solution, including enabling Network Boot in the BIOS but to no avail. Has anyone else had this issue and/or can you help?
Using a dock connector and an ethernet cord, I can successfully boot into Backtrack 5. However, the Sony Vaio UX Ultramobile PC isn't a desktop replacement and I am interested in getting it mobile again. After doing some searching it looks like I am having a problem with the sky2 driver in the Linux kernel. Is their anyway to bypass this driver? I am not interested in using ethernet on the Sony Vaio UX, since I need the dock connector (making it immobile).
I am now able to boot into Backtrack 5 successfully without any error messages from the sky2 driver. What I did was delete the eth0 interface from /etc/network/interfaces. I kept a backup just in case. This is only a temporary fix though.
