r2 upgrade to r3 error
using laptop hp dv6000
CPU: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-56 (1.8GHz/512x2 L2)
Memory: 1GB PC5300 DDR2 2 DIMMs 0 Open
Motherboard: Quanta 30B8
with backtrack 5 r2
tried to upgrade to 5 r3
when i run

is there a way to upgrade without fresh install? because the normal upgrade doesn't work.

i found a nasty fix for the problem that i do not like
i reinstalled linux-image-2.6.39.4
now i have no error although i dont believe i have r3 update and also i now have 2 kernels installed
dont like this at all...
if anyone ever wanted to help id be glad for an assist.

There are a couple things I think you can do that might be helpful. I was having a crappy time trying to go through some of the BT upgrades to R3 myself, although mine revolved around virtualbox, which for me I guess was kinda inevitable.
You can do thewithout having to go through the hassle of completely reinstalling BT5R3 on your OS, and then just add the build upgrades individually. I have taken the liberty to list them all here:Code:apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

the real problem here was

dpkg: error processing initramfs-tools (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
initramfs-tools
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
i now have a fix;> and its cleaner.
first do
aptitude purge ~c
this got rid of old config files from old os's that was for some reason when i did apt-get remove purge was not removed
than i cleaned /var/lib/initramfs removing everything except the newest kernel
than used find and removed old sources libs from previous kernels
did an update-grub just in case
restarted did a prepare-kernel-sources did an update-initramfs
than did apt-get update & apt-get upgrade & apt-get dist-upgrade
and got the upgrade of initramfs went from ver .0 to .1
and i no longer get error so i must have done something in all this correctly.
I'm just happy there no longer error if it helps others that's just kool kool!!
