tun/tap device

Will you be kind enough to let me know if there is a simple method to add a tun device. I see the normal method is to recompile the kernel but as this is a slax based system there might be an alternative.

Similarly is it possible to add slax modules simply by creating a modules directory in which to house them?

(System is a Toshiba Satellite Laptop with Prism2 and a fixed disk version of backtrack).
