AR9485 ath9k BT5R1 Acer Aspire 4739Z No WIFI

Hi Guys , first congrats and thanks you for the good works , i am a fan and user since a few years.
I just got this new lap from acer a Aspire 4739Z running BT5R1 and the wifi is not working , it work under win7

i try to re install the compat ath9k driver falllowing a similar case on ubuntu http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1857808&page=5
but it seems that im doing something wrong kernel , header wise .
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire One 722 which also uses the AR9485 Wifi card. The card works great in windows 7 but when I boot into Backtrack I am also having the problem of it not turning on, when I do a lspci it shows

but under ifconfig it only shows

eth0 and lo

there is no wan0

iwconfig shows

lo no wireles extensions

eth0 no wireless extensions

the wifi light is off and the function key will not turn it on, it does not have a hardware switch just a software switch, there is no option in bios to turn the card on or off. If anyone could help me to get the wifi working I would be eternally gratefull

I also have the Acer Aspire One 722 with the same wifi card. I am running Gnome 64 bit BT5 R1. This is how I fixed it.

First you need to fix potential wifi conflicts and lockups

Press F2 on boot to enter BIOS setup.
Enable "Network Boot" then make "Network Boot" the first boot device in BIOS.
Press F10 to save changes and boot up.
Once booted then blacklist acer-wmi in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.

If you do not do this it can cause your computer to lockup when you use your wifi card and
you will have to power down your computer to get past the lockup.

Next open terminal and issue the following commands to compile and install new drivers for
your wifi card. This will take 30-45 minutes so be patient.

Once you reboot your wifi card will respond.


Here is a fix for your audio if it isn't working and a fix for the headphone jack and the
microphone.

Navigate to System>Preferences>Startup Applications...
Click add, then name the startup application, then under command type /usr/bin/pulseaudio

Next open terminal and issue the following commands:

apt-get install dkms

dpkg -i alsa-hda-dkms-acer3830tg_0.1_all.deb

After this logout and reboot.

This patch solves the audio problem on 722. There are however, two caveats for this. First,
external microphone still isn't working, and second, if internal microphone still isn't
working, you'll need to go to Sound preferences/Input and mute and then unmute microphone (to
enable internal microphone, in Sound Preferences/Hardware "Internal Audio" must be selected,
and "Analog Stereo Duplex" profile. On input tab, "Internal microphone" connector should be
selected, and Input volume should be adjusted to about 100%)
