    Save the following on your desktop as driverupdate.sh, then chmod +x driverupdate.sh, and finally ./driverupdate.sh ... After it runs it will tell you if it was successfully updated, you will just need to reboot and you should be good. Test it by
    airmon-ng stop wlan0
    macchanger -a wlan0
    airmon-ng start wlan0

    #!/bin/sh
    clear
    prepare-kernel-sources
    cd /usr/src/linux/drivers/net/wireless/rtl818x/rtl8187/
    wget http://backtrack-linux.org/silly-rfkill-patch.patch
    patch -p0 < silly-rfkill-patch.patch
    cd /usr/src/linux
    make drivers/net/wireless/rtl818x/rtl8187/rtl8187.ko
    cp drivers/net/wireless/rtl818x/rtl8187/rtl8187.ko /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rtl818x/rtl8187/rtl8187.koa
    if [ "$?" != 0 ];then
    echo "SOMETHING WENT WRONG"
    else
    echo "SEEMED TO GO OK, REBOOT COMPUTER AND YOU ARE DONE"
    fi

    I just want to confirm that after downloading a new copy of the BT5 R1 Gnome x32 vmware image and applying the patch my alfa does work fine. My other VM has had so many changes done at this point I'm sure something I did in the past was preventing the patch from resolving the problem. Thanks again.

    #Reboot system

    I just bought the Alfa card as it was on the Backtrack list. Was pulling my hair out trying to get it stable.

    h4ckn3t's sript above worked a treat.
    Thanks.
