Default BT5R1 can't find wireless netwrok or adapter

I am using a Intel 5300 agn wireless adapter(internal) and have recently acquired a linksys AE2500 usb adapter. I am operating on BT64bit Gnome and have searched and tried many things to loacate or install wlan0 and have been unsuccessful. I can connect to the web fine but no wireless interface or chipset... Here is my lsusb dmesg | tail lspci

Try to burn a DVD with ISO (not VMW), boot and see if they are recognized.
If not, you have to install the drivers for them. Need to see if the models are supported by aircrack-ng suite in case you want to audit wep-wpa-wpa2.

Try this first in a terminal:
    /etc/init.d/wicd start
iwconfig (see if they are there).
    Type: lsmod
look for intel or linksys modules...
If still nothing, you might want to search for linux drivers. Install drivers.
Once recognized by the OS, you are ready to go, but as said before, need to be patched if want to audit wireless.

    Best of lucks.

    Hey,

Correct that is because you are using virtual machine backtrack. But you could make it work when you would use a USB stick wifi card it should work withouth that or you just boot wit hthe burnded live DVD

    Hey dude

it sounds like you have not (By chance) disconnected it from the host to the virtual machine? taking a stab in the dark, VM -> removable devices -> your usb wireless device -> either connect to guest or disconnect from host? been using Virtual box for a while so forgot vmware lol, this is crazy! So crazy- It just might work!

    Cheers

I forgot something, Virtual Box OSE does not support USB devices..You might want to use the Oracle Virtual Box. If you boot from CD live, I'm sure it will be recognized, but don't know if your device is aircrack compatible...
Here you can read this that backs my assestment, by the way, I use Oracle VM, it has usb support in my debian. Debian squeeze has the OSE and had to change it.
    PHP Code:
     [url]http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1638356.html[/url]
    and this one:
    PHP Code:
     [url]http://forum.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&p=147225[/url]
I use Debian Squeeze, stated that OSE does not support usb, if you want switch to Oracle Virtual Box. I'm affraid BT5 is using OSE.

Here is another thread, read it, please:
    PHP Code:
     http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Fix-VirtualBox-USB-Support-111715.shtml
Also read the Oracle VBox homepage.

Also google on this matter, you will see.

You would have to install on Hard driev BT5, uninstall Virtual Box OSE (aptitude purge), download Oracle VB (it installs the pack including USB support).
I updated the squeeze repos and added the Oracle "deb" to install it from repos"..All that is in Oracle Page.

    Best of lucks.
