Default Trouble with VMWare Tools in BT5R1 with OSX host and VMWare Fusion 3.1.3

I am hoping someone can help me with the difficulty I am having problems getting the VMWare Tools to properly compile with a Fusion 3.1.3 host. I saw that Rel1k has a post on this at: http://www.secmaniac.com/august-2011...acktrack-5-r1/
    wherein he states:

Below is a quick tutorial on how to get Back|Track 5 R1 VMWare Tools installed. This was tested on OSX Fusion. Open up a terminal window:

    tar -zxvf VMwareTools*
    cd vmware-tools-distrib
    perl vmware-install.pl

Select defaults, it will complain that it cannot find the linux C headers. Point the directory to /usr/src/linux/include. Everything should now compile properly.

I cannot figure out how to implement his instructions. For example at what point do you "Point the directory to /usr/src/linux/include"? Also, I don't get an error message complaining of being unable to locate the linux C headers.

I followed Rel1k's instructions the best I could and got the following error messages:

    Searching for GCC...
    Detected GCC binary at "/usr/bin/gcc".
The path "/usr/bin/gcc" appears to be a valid path to the gcc binary.
Would you like to change it? [no]

    make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only'

The filesystem driver (vmhgfs module) is used only for the shared folder
feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work
    independently of this feature.

If you wish to have the shared folders feature, you can install the driver by
running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make
and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine.
These packages are available on your distribution's installation CD.

I tried ReL1K's approach after unsuccessfully attempting the approach detailed at http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/...p/VMware_Tools

Both approaches fail to enable shared folders to work properly.....

Default Re: Trouble with VMWare Tools in BT5R1 with OSX host and VMWare Fusion 3.1.3

I solved this one by using the vmware image (bt5r1-gnome-vm-32) and following the steps described in the wiki (http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/...p/VMware_Tools). This worked fine and all vmware tools modules work including shared folders. For some reason using the ISO and installing tools manually and then patching as described in the wiki did not work for me.
