    Default netgear wg511u

    Hello there,
i've got a netgear wg511u pcmcia wich is correctly detected by ubuntu (using madwifi), and backtrack 2 finale is installed in dual boot. The problem is that when i start BT 2 it doesnt detect the card at all (neither the led are lit)... could the problem be that i even got a bcm4306 integrated? Could this generate any conflict? I wold be very very grateful for any help!

Your netgear wg511u has the ATHEROS AR5004X (a/b/g) chipset.
Try this. It should fix it.
Open a new shell window..pop your card out..then back in and type this in your prompt....

    dmesg

and read the last few lines of output..is your card there? Does it say something similar to

(the last 12 lines of your dmesg command

    pcmcia: parent PCI bridge I/O window: 0xa000 - 0xafff
cs: IO port probe 0xa000-0xafff: clean.
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0xb0300000 - 0xb03fffff
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0x50000000 - 0x53ffffff
pccard: Cardbus card inserted into slot 0
pccard: card ejected from slot 0
pccard: CardBus card inserted into slot 0

IF SO type this in the shell prompt....

    modprobe ath_pci

    then type this command

    dmesg

And see if that filled in the blanks...if so your ready to go!!
    test it with

    airmon-ng stop ath0
    ifconfig wifi0 down
    macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 wifi0
    airmon-ng start wifi0
    airodump-ng ath0

and you should be seeing your AP and others. And your in monitor mode with my above commands with a fake mac address..your all set now.

Please take time out to tell us if it workied or not.

    uhmm
things not working yet, the card is still not lit... It seems like pcmcia are not supported by the modules that it loads...
    in fact:
    dmesg | grep pcmcia
cs: pcmcia_socket0: cardbus cards are not supported.

And there was not the lines you were saying... Anyway i'll attach you my dmesg aftter loading the module :
    modprobe ath_pci
    ....
    Thanks for the help!
