won't install on hard disk

im trying to install bt 5 on my hard disk - gnome-64, but after the installer says creating ext4 fs it fails and say: can't continue installation hard disk failure and so on. but I installed ubuntu 11.04 and it works fine on the same hard disk. pls help. I downloaded it from a mirror in rit.edu. thanks

Go back and check the MD5 hash of the .iso you downloaded. I was running into some issues with BT5 where I was too anxious to play around and forgot to check the hash of the .iso. Booting and running BT5 in live mode worked fine, but when I tried to install to disk, it failed. After going back and checking the hash on the file I downloaded, I found it was different, so I had to redownload the .iso. After getting a good download, I was able to install to disk without problems.

Go back and make sure your BT iso was downloaded correctly, ie. check the MD5 hash of the file you downloaded against the MD5 hash provided with the iso. If the hashes don't match, then you'll need to redownload the iso. I had a problem installing BT5 to disk and discovered after some troubleshooting, that it was because I had a bad download and the MD5 checksum wasn't what it should have been. Downloading the iso again allowed me to install to disk without any problems.

Make sure the iso you downloaded was downloaded complete, ie. go back and check the MD5 sum of the iso downloaded against the MD5 sum provided with the iso. I had a problem installing BT5 to disk that turned out to be caused by a bad download. Downloading the iso again and ensuring the MD5 sums matched solved my problem. Maybe it will yours too.

i am new here and this thread seems to be the closest to my problem. I downloaded backtrack 5 as an iso image. put it in the cd drive and restarted the computer. it comes back on to a black screen for about a minute then to the ubuntu screen and then the login screen.

my boot menu is setup right for it to read the cd/dvd drive first.

You guys said something about this hd5 hash thing. I found some md5sum.txt file in my download that had this in it:
