Can't change gnome-terminal size default

no place to change the default size and I tried the System/preference/preferred applications/system/terminal emulator/ custom as gnome-terminal --geometry=160x50 but it doesn't work.
Not for the icon but for all the tools that start a terminal.

Open Terminal and type in

sudo gedit /usr/share/vte/termcap/xterm [in case you're not root]

A file will be opened. Look for this line:

:co#80:it#8:li#24:\

where co# is the number of columns, and li# is the number of lines (rows)
if you want a terminal window of 132x50:

:co#132:it#8:li#50:\

Exit Terminal. And click on Terminal or any tools required a Terminal, you can see the size has been changed! =)

hi there,
it works fine!
But i woud like to know why the size cannot change when i type "gconftool-2 -t int -s /apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default/default_size_rows 6" on terminal even after reboot.
The file %gconf.xml has changed ,but it just doen't work!
Any help?

Thanks halo3, that worked great. Up until now I had just used the --geometry= setting with the icon.
