So, for anyone reading this and the previous posters.
    Code:
    apt-get distro-upgrade
this did the trick, no compiling from source or reinstalling, just the distro-upgrade command.
    got the suggestion from here:
    http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...libraries.html

    so, thank you docbob.

Hello, I don't know if everyone has already gotten this problem fixed and sorry for digging up an old thread but I just now came across this problem and same as some of the others that have posted got hung up after the "make debian-package" command.

I found another tutorial on how to fix this problem which didn't work in it's entirety either...but I have found that parts of both worked flawlessly for me.

So everything in Samiux's tutorial works great before the Step 4 command I just mentioned...maybe the rest worked for him and some others but for the people that it didn't work for here is the solution.

Instead of using "make debian-package" ; use the following:

    make
    make install
    ldconfig

And that's it, I will say that the "make" command takes like 15 minutes, but just be patient.

Okay credit goes to Samiux for the main part that worked for me, thank you Samiux and the other part goes to this tutorial.

    Hope this helps.

I had this problem, these two lines fixed it all:

    cp /usr/local/lib/libwsutil.so.1 /usr/lib/libwsutil.so.0
    cp /usr/local/lib/libwiretap.so.1 /usr/lib/libwiretap.so.0

Thanks to Ben Williams here is his blog entry http://insidetrust.blogspot.com/2011...ixed-some.html
