Default Problem with Nvidia graphic card on BackTrack 5 GNOME 64-bit

    HI Everyone,

    I have a Acer 5951G notebook
    nvidia Geforce GT 555M 2Gb
    i7 2630QM
    HM65 express chipset

After i installed the driver and the CUDA toolkit i am having a problem on startx (followed http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/...A_On_BackTrack on installing the driver and toolkit). I tried adding BusID to xorg.conf however i made me run into black screen after startx. Although i know X is running because when i press CTRL-ALT-DEL and then Enter i can shutdown properly. I think this problem was caused by my monitor is connected to the Intel's graphic card. So when I use the Nvidia's graphic card nothing's output to the monitor. If i delete xorg.conf I can successfully boot into GNOME. If i change Grub's setting to i915.modeset=1 i will run into black screen while booting. Can anyone tell me how to make my Nvidia graphic card work properly?

    Thanks

    I'm using NVIDIA GT 540M CUDA 1GB

After read tutorial from http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/...A_On_BackTrack about how to installing NVIDIA driver, I realized that there are many differences between backtrack's method, and mine.

    I also following:
    root@bt:~# prepare-kernel-sources
    root@bt:~# cd /usr/src/linux
    root@bt:~# cp -rf include/generated/* include/linux/

but I downloaded NVIDIA driver from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

also, I modified grub.cfg to avoid nouveau kernel, so the hardware can work properly.
    Change grub.cfg by adding nouveau.modeset=0

reboot, then avoid to type startx. install driver by typing ./[directory of your driver installer] --kernel-source-path='/usr/src/linux'
follow installation, then update your grub by typing update-grub. last.... reboot your machine.

tell me if there's something wrong.

Could your way work with Optimus Technology?? Like using only the Nvidia GPU with its drivers?

Default AW: Problem with Nvidia graphic card on BackTrack 5 GNOME 64-bit

ok guys i had the same problem with my ubuntu system on my dell.

the problem is the optimus technlogy. pls try this:
    -install bumblebee (git)
-after this install ne nvidia driver
-now the system starts with the onboard gpu
-if you want to run a program with the nvidia you need to use in the console "optirun + programm command"
    example:
root@bt:~# gedit --> starts with Intel
root@bt:~# optirun gedit --> start with nvidia
