the host cpu doesnt matter. make sure the setting you applied allow for 64-bit vitualization. dunno about virtualbox but vmware had some issues.
HI!
I have downloaded BT5 Gnome 64 bit and was installing it in VirtualBox -- my host OS is Windows 7. I did everything perfectly when i started it and selected the first option BackTrack Test - Default boot text mode. It started loading and prompted the messge, [b]This Kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected i686 CPU. Unable to boot -- please select a kernel appropriate for your CPU. What is the problem and what might be the solution?
Note: My CPU is 64bit.

At first i installed it my self but got the issue. Then i watched out several videos on youtube for installing BT5 in VirtualBox and they did it the same way and got it installed.
Are all your settings the same as theirs? Dumb question, I know, but you can't troubleshoot with out a controlled environment.
I am having the same issue. I notice that in some videos they have the option for ubuntu-64. virtualbox does not give me that option. I don't get why because I am running windows 7 x64.
