Default Senao 2511CD Plus EXT2 receive sensitivity

I am considering (well, already decided to be honest) to get the Senao 2511CD Plus EXT2 card and i did a lot of research. Mostly i found out that the high tx power doesnt equal power receive so i found a thread here about the Ubiquiti card and i concluded that the lesser the - (minus) number in receive the better. Right?

how does this look good and why is it only 11mb is the best value?

    This is the SENAO card
    Receive Sensitivity (Typical)
    11 Mbps <-81dBm
    5.5 Mbps <-91dBm
    2 Mbps <- 93dBm
    1 Mbps <-95dBm

and this is the UBIQUITY card
    DataRate Sensitivity Tolerance
    1Mbps -96 dBm +/-1dB
    2Mbps -95 dBm +/-1dB
    5.5Mbps -94 dBm +/-1dB
    11Mbps -91 dBm +/-1dB

According to the specs this card is capable of 200mw and is able to pull off 249 (uses the prism 2.5 chipset).
While the Ubiquity is 300mw out of the box and uses the Atheros chipset.

Now by looking at those two above i know that "a receive sensitivity of
-98 dBm is better than a receive sensitivity of -95 dBm by 3 dB, or a factor of two." so the senao card sucks compared to the ubiquiti card.

My question now is if only the senao card is available in the local market, IS it worth it?

    Please advise.

i use the senao so i would say go with that. one thing you should know, the new hostap drivers on BT2 doesnt support txpower. So you cant change from 200mw to 249mw. But i still think it was worth every penny.

-95 vs. -98 is hardly a case of one card sucking vs. the other. These numbers are very good for both cards, compared to others.

    Default thanks. firmware.

    thanks for the reply guys.

I did go out and buy the card. It gave me hell at first cause of the stupid pigtail. We basically had to convert and rip the connector until we got it working.
Its now connected to a dlink 2.4GHz Omni-Directional 7dBi Indoor Antenna.

My problems in windows were at first i knew something was wrong and my scan in would reveal Nothing until upgraded the STATION (very confusing firmware system) to 1.8.4.
now the question is; whats this PDA, Primary, and all other stuff?
Whats an easy way to flash this thing?

    Now, in BT -

I did do the whole rmmod orinoco drama and load the hostap_cs however when i try to run kismet i cant scan and i when i run airoscript and hit scan it immediately goes back to the menu (i know it failed the scan but why it doesnt say).

In regards to the firmware: Whats the best firmware to use from this directory? http://www.netgate.com/support/prism_firmware/ (which files? the pa or the sta) ? i am using the winupdate program.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

i also got the Senao 2511CD Plus EXT2,
and like you i had to downgrade the firmware to 1.7.4
Also when using bt2 i have to rmmod the senao drivers.
    rmmod orinoco-cs
    rmmod orinoco
    rmmod hermes
    modprobe hostap-cs

Now when starting airoscript ,if asked for scanning
it also brings up the menu instantly

It seems we have the same prob

Does the packet injection test work with your card?

i downloaded the latest airoscript and i also installed the latest aircrack (0.9) so if i were to run Airoscript-BETA_1-2.0.7 then i select wlan0 i am able to do everything.

the train stops there though. if i were to try to start kismet i get a stupid error complaining about madwifi and even though the source is set correctly it doesnt want to load.

another issue is with the wireless assistant in KDE. it works fine with my ipw3945 but when i select (wifi0) -- it doesnt give me wlan0, and i do a scan i get nothing.

this really sucks and its giving me a headache.

I don't use kismet so much.
    It works fine with bt2.
    For scanning BSSID's i use airodump-ng
did you check config file in kismet and wireless assistant in KDE?
    check your private msg!

Airoscript is for lazy boys.....better to learn commands i think.....

for kismet, have you edited the kismet.conf with the correct sources ?

have you try to connect internet manualy without wlanassistant ? iwlist xxx scan... iwconfig .....dhcpcd.... ?? you can try the 0.5.7 new version of assistant too....
Watch your back, your packetz will belong to me soon... xD
