Well that sux cause how can u download the new firmware u need and save it to a live CD?
Sounds like you need to make a persistent install and go find your firmware online , and copy it to /lib/firmware I think thats all you need to do.
I had to do this also for my Ralink firmware. Went to ralinks website got the firmware, copied the bin file, and rebooted and it works just like it always does. I have a persistent usb stick bcause i knew i would have to update drivers for- MY- adapter.
