Default Macbook Pro 8,1 Broadcom Wireless

    Hey all,

I was checking out this thread on BackTrack 5 and BCM43224 chipsets working on a MacBook Pro. My MacBook is one of the newest generations - the 8,1 with the i7 Sandy Bridge processors. As far as I'm aware they also use an updated wireless card (for a start it has 3 antennas and not two like the pervious generations).

It's firmware version is showing up as Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 5.100.198.104.3 supporting a/b/g/n but BackTrack 5 doesn't appear to recognise the card at all. iw and ifconfig yield nothing. Wicd doesn't show any networks or interfaces either.

Have I missed anything when it comes to configuring the card or is it just not compatible with BackTrack?

    Cheers,
    SJ

I'm having the same problem with the MacBook Pro 8,2 (first Thunderbolt model, 2011). The AirPort Extreme wireless card is listed as having firmware version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 5.100.198.104.5. It supports 802.11 a/b/g/n as well. Running ifconfig yields no wireless devices. Running lsmod shows b43 right at the top. Odd? I've had a wonderful experience with the b43 drivers on my Dell Mini 9.

Any news on this MacBook Pro issue? Thanks for any replies.

I wanted to add this next little bit just in case someone else is able to find this post through a google search.I got past the white screen of death by using the advice here. If you're using a MacBook Pro with an ATI/AMD graphics card check this post for the answer.

    Hello BackTrack Community,

I have the same issue here and I was searching a lot about this topic since the wireless card is not supported in other Linux-Distros that I've tried as well.
I'll be looking some more for a possible solution and post my findings here (if any).

If someone more experienced than I am could look for a solution I would really appreciate it.

    Thx.
