Mhh.. maybe you should try to kill the gps daemon and start it again, this works for me very well if i got this error message.
Check if the service is already running:
If the service is running, type:Code:ps -A | grep gpsd
Code:killall gpsd
I found this nice article on the question defense website and I'm trying to follow the steps, but I'm running into some errors.
I've tried the steps on my VM running BT5 Gnome 64-bit and also my usb running BT5 Gnome 32-bit. I'm using BU-353 GPS receiver which is same receiver used in the article.
The steps to start BU-353 GPS receiver are found here :
I first ranThen after plugging in the usb gps I ranCode:gpsd -h
and confirmed my gps receiver is ttyUSB0 by getting this message:Code:dmesg | tail -n 20
Next I started gpsdCode:usb 2-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
and that resulted in no errors and no changes on the screen.Code:gpsd -n /dev/ttyUSB0
When I go back to the wireless recon article and start my gpsd with this command:
I get:gpsd -N -n -D 3 /dev/ttyUSB0
I thought I'm getting this error because I ran a command earlier to start gpsdgpsd: launching (Version 2.92)
gpsd: Can't bind to port gpsd
gpsd: Maybe gpsd is already running!
gpsd: Can't bind to port gpsd
gpsd: Maybe gpsd is already running!
gpsd: command sockets create failed, netlib errors -1, -1
so I restarted both my VM and my usb backtrack and ran the commandCode:gpsd -n /dev/ttyUSB0from the recon article and got the same error message in both machines.Code:gpsd -N -n -D 3 /dev/ttyUSB0
Any ideas why I'm getting this error message?

Test if you're receiving data by telneting to gpsd
# telnet localhost 2947
I always ran into the problem in the past that gpsd would never get shut down so i had to manually kill it before it would run again. I bet it's just still running on ya.
Skip gpsd, it's garbage. Kismet will use the gps data natively. In the kismet.conf where the gpsd lines are located there's a place to tell it where your gps is. Comment out the gpsd parts and uncomment the usb parts.
Of course, if you really wanted to have some fun, go to Wal-Mart late at night and ask the greeter if they could help you find trashbags, roll of carpet, rope, quicklime, clorox and a shovel. See if they give you any strange looks. --Streaker69
