Angry Backtrack 5 boot: Safe mode works but normal doesn't

I'm having trouble figuring out why backtrack isn't booting properly. (Gnome 64bit)

Firstly I would like to say that it works on my desktop perfectly fine but then when i try on my laptop it doesn't boot properly.

When I select normal/text mode it will start loading up everything then just before it goes to the startx screen, half the screen goes black and lines go through it.
But then when I run it in safe mode everything works perfectly fine...

Any ideas on what could be the problem.
    Thanks Jem.

Sounds like a videocard driver issue. What are the make and model of each computer. And what are the videocards?

The laptop that it isn't working on is Acer Aspire 5741G. It has a nvidia geforce 320M 1gb graphics card.

No to sure about the other laptop...it recently stopped working haha and I cant get it working again.

    Thanks Jem.

OK Firstly, and I really should have told you this to begin with. You should prolly check the MD5 of the disk since it's easy to do (look around the forums/Wiki) and can easily cause it to work right in one system, but fail completely in another. Secondly, there was a really bad known bug for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M gfx cards and Startx in particular. There was much complaining, mostly because that card had terrible Linux support when they were new. But I have no idea if that's the problem here or not. You will need help from one of the pros of the forums, as I'm fairly new. Or you will just need to try the fix and see what happens. In any case, here is a link that’s supposed to be the fix for that bug. Should also be installation instructions as well.

Now, If your using the live CD, you will have to install and set up in safe/text only mode, then install the drivers. Then things should start working right. Also take note that I could easily be dead wrong about this and it may not help you at all. So don't do any thing you can't undo, and back up all your stuff before doing any thing. And if things don't work right, re-post with as much information as you can think of and some one else will likely be able to help you out from there on.

    Best of luck.
