Try changing the host to be pinged to something you can ping ... it's a pretty weird issue.

Just to update that the script is perfect its nothing to do with the script ive gone through it and Ive reinstalled it on a test machine and in vmware and it as usually great work from sickness the OP over tweaked and has deleted files or messed with grub OP please give the output when your machine starts up

Hey, All I know is I was excited to see the script, ran without issues per the instructions. Each one seemed to run without issue. I ran them individually but whatever. I finished with the the first, update / clean.
All was still well. I shutdown, booted up in the morning and booted to a weird prompt. Looked around and /pentest was gone and wouldn't boot.

you can fix this by booting from the usb and fixing grub on the harddrive

regarding the no internet connection I have had this problem but it seems only to be with wifi when its on lan it runs flawless
on wifi it works most of the time If i recall correctly increase the timeout in the script as when your connected on wifi it will sometimes take longer to go through and its not a physical connection and can sometime timeout

I just made a fresh install of BT5 Gnome x32 in Virtualbox, manually made a apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade -y.
After that, I downloaded the update-script, compiled it and updated all the programs.. I worked like a charm! It's a really nice update-script you made there..
And as I told you on irc, the source code is really easy to read and change...
Really an awesome job!

To close the loop on this - Yes, the script is good, my Foo is bad...

It is apparently a known issue with Ubuntu, one that I was hit with on BT 4. It was just the bad timing of everything.
Anyway, I found this which sums it up and can help anyone in same boat. https://community.rapid7.com/message/1332#1332
