Steps to remove metasploit

1. apt-get remove source-framework3
2. Delete "/pentest/exploits/framework3" and "/opt/framework3"
3. go to "/pentest/exploits/"
4. svn co http://metasploit.com/svn/framework3/trunk/ framework3

try purging the files:

apt-get purge framework3
rm -rf /pentest/exploits/framework3
rm -rf /opt/framework3
apt-get install framework3

NOTE: Make sure to kill the postgres process before attempting to install framework3!

Doesn't work...and thats confirmed because ive just used this on a clean ISO install.

Can i suggest someone here actually install from scratch to replicate the error and then provide the solution?

Here's my question:
Does updating through apt-get upgrade, etc. do anything different than simply running msfupdate? Are there things updated by apt-get upgrade that aren't updated through the svn?

Also, regarding killing postgres, you could just do /etc/init.d/framework-postgres stop

Guys,

We don't need duplicate installs or "suggestions" written by people still using older versions of backtrack. This is NOT helpful and your actually making your installs unsupportable anyway.

Can someone show us how to install this from source and fix the "original" error in the package update? That would be extremely helpful.....

Until then I suggest one of the moderators report this error through the correct channels, because I am done making a fuss about a genuine issue nobody seems to care about. I am holding the version of the "framework3" package via aptitude until I see some progess.
