Exclamation Backtrack 5 Live USB .

I can't boot Backtrack 5 KDE 64-bit from usb ! I tried using unetbootin in windows, LiLi in windows, and dd in linux and the first two left me with a blinking "-," while the last one didn't boot at all . Just went straight to the GRUB .

Did you check the MD5 sum of the images you downloaded?

    Dear all,

I do experience a similar problem.

    I have a HP Pavilion dm1.
I have build a bootable USB key with BT5-KDE-32.iso (check for MD5 sum and test it on an other computer).

Here is what I get: it seems to boot but eventually I get a black sreen covered of lot of grey lines. It does not answer to any basic cmd.

Would you have any idea what my problem could be ?

    Many thanks

I used unetbin and other programs.
With the same iso i can boot from a cd but not from usb.
The usb works on other computers.

    64bit, Intel I7.

i've noticed the same flakiness. if the usb is formmated as a hd, it will boot. but if it is seen as a zip/removable, it gives 'boot error'. however, the usb will boot if there is a bt dvd in the optical drive.

Something similar happened to me. I was going crazy trying to get it to boot from USB for the first time, it turns out I just had to look through the BIOS more carefully.

It was detecting my USB drive as a Hard Drive, and wouldn't boot from it when I set External Drive as the primary boot option in the Boot Device Priority.

I had another option which was to list Hard Drives (on another tab completely) and I had to set my Kingston USB drive as the primary disk there. Maybe check if you have a similar option.
