Toshiba Satellite A25 live cd boot problems
So i got a hold of an old laptop (the aforementioned Tosh Satellite A25 s207)
and i wanna turn it into a dual boot XP / bt lappy....
this is NOT a dual boot question, i can do that assuming i can get both systems to boot of course (which i cant)
so heres whats going on
i put in the bt2.0 live cd, and let it boot up and such, log in to root and try to startx - for some reason half of the screen shows the XP bootdown splash and the other half is blank and it just stalls there.
SO then i do Xconf and it seems promising, hangs on the black screen with the x for a while and then gives me a "Could not start kdeinit Check your instalation" error message" also when i cntrl + alt + f1 i get a few diffrent messages "error while loading shared libraries" "invalid ELF header" " kde-config error while loading shared libraries" "error: cant contact kdeinit!"
ok so then i try both xorgconf and xorgsetup followed by a startx....same drill
getting frustrated i tried flux (thinking it mite work)
I can boot up (albeit slow) but it refuses to go into the installer ( or any other programs for that matter )
i am pretty new to bt, and am also fairly new to linux as a whole in general
does anyone have any ideas of what to do?

At bootup try
bt irqpoll
at the initial boot prompt
Which seems to solve problems with a lot of toshiba laptops

i just tried it, same issues,
its the wierdest thing, when i do startx the top half of the screen is black and the bottom half is a windows shutdown screen...it just stalls there
after i did the bt irqpoll boot i get diffrent errors though
"Could not init font path emement /usr/x11r6/lib/x11/fonts/cid femoving from list!
kde-config error while loading shared libraries
xset bad font path element
no composite extension
unable to load any usable fontset....

here are a couple of others to try
bt acpi=off
bt noagp
also try a combination of them
have you checked the md5 of the iso as a corrupt iso will cause this
did you burn the disk as slow as possible as fast burns can cause this too
-
well i am downloading from a diffrent site and am going to reburn (slower this time thanks for the tip!) and well see if that helps
as far as the boot commands, how do i enter more then one, do i just type one, hit the space and type another or do i need ,'s or :'s or something else i am missing
-
well balding you do know your stuff....using the a newer slower burnt disk and the bt apcia cheat i could boot up....i really apreaciate it
