what program did you use? i used Uneetbootin and Lili USB creator (BT4F) and both worked.
I think you should try it again.
Also check that the MD5 Hashes match.
Go to the Directory the ISO Is.
Windows md5sum -c filename.md5
hi guys
well as the title pretty much says
i load it from a usb (i been able to boot it on other occasions)
it loads verbose
then the wallpaper of BT5 shows up and thats it
nothing happens
(i also had once that the screen stayed black but i could login blindly and then it showed)
i also tried this but no effect
so i'm pretty sure it just freezes for some reason on that point
does some1 know what the problem might be?
thx in advance

Well i give it a shot if i can help.
Try using this USB Live ( i did use that intruction and works fine with me ) so by what im saying proceed from the beginning. formatting your USB and install BT5 again
and also try to check if your system can run BT5
NOTE: i use BT5 GNOME 32bit iso, so if we're not compatible then try to wait for the experts ^^

I am having the same problem. I used Unetbootin, linuxlive and even a tried live cd. I can select which mode I want then some loading, a splash screen followed by a black screen for me. Got it to load on my linux box (now a dual boot w/ BT5). USB works great when run as VMvitualbox. Just can't get live cd or usb to work from boot. Think i might be having the same problem xeph20. @xeph20 have you had any success with VM?

Hi,
I just had the same trouble. I think we are not seeing a login window for some reason.
First, I found unetbootin put the ISO on USB a bit better than Lili Creator did.
Second, I found at the splash scree just typing the name and password and startx worked for me.
root and hit <enter>
toor and hit <enter>
startx and hit <enter>
Then I got the four oriental looking characters and then the desktop.

One other note is I found ctrl+shift+esc seemed to toggle between the splash screen and a black screen. Don't know what this means or if it is useful.
I pluged my live usb and was able to get to the logon screen root@root. However now i am getting a black screen after "startx". MD5 hashes match up. Tryed Uneetbootin but got futher with Lili USB creator.
Acer Iconia 6120: Intel HD Graphics Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0
i boot BT5 off a live cd, for me I thought it was stuck at the backtrack 5 screen but after hitting esc, it opens up the black loading screen. There you can see BT5 booting. I gave it a few minutes and it booted. So maybe it is not that it is stuck it is just booting. For me the process takes a good 5 -10 minutes sometimes.
Same problem for me on Vaio Z :/ I tried both 64bit version with GNOME and KDE on DVD and USB - no difference, always the same problem.
But if i plug in VGA cable in "black screen moment", then i can see the wallpaper. Maybe i will try to wait more minutes after i can see the wallpaper. I will try it at home and i can report here the reslut.
