Did the same thing. It sucked. Literally spent like 8 hours changing settings over and over again. Let it also be known that I was using KDE. So apparently neither 64bit versions of the OS work with ettercap in that respect. Really hope this helps someone avoid the endless googling I did. My advice to those trying to "work around" this limitation: give up. delete the vm or format the hdd. download the 32 bit version. get on with your pre-pentesting.

for reasons our of my control (given an error that i do not have permission to access that page when i try to reply) i cannot respond in the thread. if you do that install (64bit kde in VirtualBox) and get the error from ettercap: Dissector "dns" not supported (etter.conf line 70). You cannot do ARP spoofing or anything of that sort. The only resolution to the problem I have found is removing the 64bit version and trading to a 32 bit version... hopefully this little message will show up if someone searches the forum
