HP DM4 hd5450 can't install backtrack black screen issue

Hello,


I'm trying to install backtrack on my laptop, but, i can only start the live cd with first option if i changed the parameters(splah to nomodeset) but when i type startx the screen goes black, is there any way to set nomodeset to Startx command as a paremeter ? is there anyway to fix this issue ?

You have a intel integrated graphics?
If that tried edit /etc/default/grub and change text splash nomodeset vga=791 to text splash nomodeset to i915.modeset=1

After execute update-grub

reboot!!!

I have done what you said and still can't load X server, as BK5 is not installed in my machine i think the changes on grub are not permanent. Is there any tutorial on how to install BK5 using the prompt ? i mean without loading the x server ? i think if i installed it on my machine and then update the drivers problem will be fixed.

if you booting with live CD and change the grub. there nothing to changed. you must hold down the shift key until the menu displays. and press "e" to change the grub like i said.

i'm sorry i don't undertand. Could you be more specific, when execatly i need to hold the shift key and press e ? at the live cd options, where i choose in what mode should backtrack initialize ? if is in this moment the only thing that happens is that timer( 30 second that you have unntil it initialize with the firs option) is restart.

you can tried use USB to boot.if the problem still you can edit syslinux.cfg in your USB FLASH.(change text splash nomodeset vga=791 to text splash nomodeset to i915.modeset=1
)
