In my case it probably isn't related to the Alfa AWUS036H because I have a different networkcard.
Anyone any ideas how to solve this problem?

    Edit:

I tried reinstalling gerix with apt-get remove and install but that didn't change the problem.
If I try to start gerix-wifi-cracker from the terminal as sudo /usr/share/gerix-wifi-cracker-ng/gerix.py it only states " config directory OK" but noting else starts.
Anyone an idea what could be the problem? Is it my networkcard (although gerix worked fine under backtrack 4 RC2) or some isntallation problem?

When I ran BT5 and BT5R1 from usb it didn't work. When I ran it in my virtual machine, it works fine. Both my internal card(intel centrino ultimate 6300 - n) and my usb realtek card support injection, and this still happens. very frustrating. I dont care that it doesnt work, I just want to know the reason behind why it doesn't work.

I do really like Backtrack 5, it looks great and works great so far. But I do have a problem with starting gerix-wifi-cracker-ng. If I try to start it from the Applications menu it doesn't start. When I than close backtrack it states that there is still an "unknown program" running which I think is gerix because if I try to start gerix multiple times there are the same amount of "unknown programs" running.

So is this a known problem, am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Could anyone help me with this.

I think the problem is with airmon-ng. This hangs with some intel centrino cards (discussed elsewhere in the forums). Airmon-zc works, hence may be worth changing the gerix script to call airmon-zc. This works with some of my own scripts, although I haven't tried with gerix.

try fern wifi cracker. or try a great script called wifi_101 which is good enough to be gui based.

So at least one person on BT5(not R1) did have the config directory OK trouble.....

    Probably just need
    Code:
    apt-get install pyqt-tools
no idea about some of the other troubles described in this thread. I don't get into drivers and such too often unless I'm having my own difficulties

BT5 garix works ok on a Dell D800. Using the Realtek 8171 (USB) it will not go into monitor mode. Using Hawkins HWU8DD (show using Zydas WLA-541 driver), garix is fully functional. But attempting to invoke the program garix on a Dell E6410 and E6420, neither will work regardless of the USB wifi used. Both come with an internal wifi card but I shut it off with the manual slide switch. I don't think BT4 will work on these newer laptops but I'm willing to try. Any ideas are appreciated.

    im a newbie ..

i hv a built in intel wifi adapter (N6200)

initially when i first started using BT5 32 bit ..

gerix worked jus fine with da intel adapter ..

i even managed to crack 1 wep AP ..

then suddenly gerix stopped working .. and airmon-ng didnt find any interface ..

so i purchased a linksys WUSB54GC wifi external adapter ..

it supports injection .. (as is reported by the BT5 dev -team backtrack wiki)

so i see no reason why gerix shouldnt work now with the new usb adapter ..
even after i put the internal wifi off with the slider .. gerix refuses to start .. although at this stage // airmon-ng does detect the usb adapter as wlan1 ... and also enables monitor mode ...
