This chipset should work fine, unless you enable ndiswrapper or something. Did you try ifconfig and see if it is listed under wlan0? Usually you need to either reinstall wicd or create a startup link for wicd-client to work and recognize this card; but if your used to doing things manually, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Again, check your /etc/network/interfaces file and make sure you have wlan0 setup, and if so; then maybe check conflicting modules (modprobe modules and blacklist) like ssb, ndiswrapper, b43, etc. Mine is working fine in BT5 gnome amd64. sudo iwconfig <settings> then dhclient wlan0...
