I think what thorin is trying to say is that you should probably familiarize yourself with linux in general (install Ubunu to the HD, try booting off the CD, install to a virtual machine, or something along those lines) before trying to use a specialized distro like Back Track. the #Ubuntu IRC channel is very helpful.
