Internet EXTREMELY slow on BT5 KDE 32bit

Basically having EXTREMELY slow download speeds on wget, apt-get, normal downloads, etc(50 kb/s bax). Pages seem to load pretty well though (still wouldnt say even say half as fast as windows) Heard it might be a problem with /etc/resolv setting nameserver to your router IP. Sure enough, yup. Change it to opendns, restart, still slow. Change dns settings in the wireless manager to opendns, still slow. Change GLOBAL dns settings to opendns, no. Finally, for what ever reason it resets back to my router. No clue what to do next.

If it is indeed a DNS error, how do I fix this? I was thinking of:
sudo chmod -w /etc/resolv.conf
To stop what ever is over-writing it from doing so, but even when I set it to another DNS, it is still slow. Please, any advice is helpful.

Now my download speed is fast, with pages loading slow. Without me touching a single setting...

I have exactly the same issue, also KDE 32bit, havent tried gnome but dont think thats a point of it.

Do you use a eee pc 1005 HA like me ? At least i have same ether/wlan chipset.
I use wifi for internet and thats damn slow, maybe the driver is broken/buggy.

Got the same problem with Gnome 64 bit Version of BT5. It really looks live there is a driver problem. I have an Emachines E627 with almost the same wireless chipset.

Same here slow wirless internet running atheros nic, no prob on windows (duel boot) but backtrack seems to suck balls when it comes to speed. Think the driver is an issue.

I doubt the problem is with DNS. Can you connect with a wired connection and see if you are having the same problem?

DNS ? Have you tried free DNS addresses ? (good ones btw)

or use Google's (tho they're slow : / )

Wired connection is not affected, seems to be a driver problem.

Tried ndiswrapper, did not work for me. It installed, and I used the same drivers that worked for me on XP 32bit, absolutely no internet, and it broke the WICD net manager
