    Default Unetbootin problem

The latest version of Unetbootin will not successfully extract and install the BT5 iso... it skips over the "Extracting and Installing Files" step and installs the bootloader, then exits. Tried this with more than one usb drive, all 8G's. Also tried older versions of Unetbootin, which do the same thing. Older versions worked fine with BT4.

Hmm, did you download BT from backtrack-linux ? Did you check the MD5 sum to make sure your iso is correct ?
Have you formatted your USB drives correctly prior to using them ? As bootable device (not always necessary, but helped me a few times) ?
Running both KDE and GNOME BT5 flawlessly. Thank you !

Yes to all... tried it repeatedly. Tried formatting thumb drive as all-Fat32 as well as making two partitions (Fat32 and Ext3). It appears to be a Unetbootin problem.

I guess I'll try the manual install to the USB.

I use UnetBootin from the BT 5 KDE 32 bit menu and had no problem. I had BT5 installed on my internal HD already and dragged the .iso off my external then plugged in my SD card and pointed it to the iso and it went with out a hitch for 32 and 64 bit. Plus it installs way faster running in linux..

I used latest version of unetbootin on a freshly formatted fat32 usb key (16gb) and it worked. I installed the 32 GNOME version. I will say though that on my first attempt something went wrong. I was continually getting dbus errors and could not start wicd (wlan card was recognized though). There was a manual fix that got it working but I tried another fresh install and the problem disappeared. Both installs though did get BT5 up and running though via unetbootin.
