Maybe you could give us a bit more info to work with, like what programs you were running. Do you have your graphics drivers installed? Are you running any gpu intensive programs?
Weird llines on open programs
When I have just a couple programs running, I get all these weird lines that cover the screen. Once I close one of the programs that are open, the lines go away. It's weird. What could be the cause of this? I have BT5 installed to my HDD.

Are you using laptop? On my laptop(Thinkpad X200 with 6GB ram) it had the same issue. If using the laptop with 2GB ram, no issue. On windows 7 also same.
I think it's the graphics card compatibility issue with 4GB RAM.

There are numerous threads that deal with specific models of gfx card and installation of drivers. Just do a search.
I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.
