Yup, that would be nice ! Even though I'm not a massive user of this tool, I feel like it's missing from the repos for those who want to easily generate wordlists !
crunch 3.0 has been released.
The changelog from 2.9 is:
fix wrong version number
changed the * character of -t option to a , (comma) as * is a reserved character
strip off blank lines when reading file for permute (-q option)
I fixed a problem with using -i and -t together
add -l to allow for literal characters of @,%^
fix -b and -c and % output fix permute -t to work with -b and -c
fixed crash when / character was in filename replace / with space - reported by Nazagul
You can find crunch 3.0 at http://sourceforge.net/projects/crunch-wordlist/
If you have any questions or problems please let me know.
Thanks,

I like the bleeding edge, but I don't like blood loss

Running both KDE and GNOME BT5 flawlessly. Thank you !
I love itlooking forward to seeing it included.
I have Backtrack 5 32 bit and I run a crunch, but crunch no longer exists on backtrack 5. Then I download the package Crunch 3.0, unpacked it and run sh Makefile, but I dont successfully installed software. Please help. Sorry for bad English...
+1 on crunch

Wait for it to be included in the repo's otherwise when you download do ;
when in the crunch 3.0 directory do aCode:tar -xvf crunch-3.0.tgz cd crunch3.0
Should then find the directory in;Code:make && make install
/pentest/passwords/
Worked for me, but best to wait until it is in the repo's I guess.
You can download a deb from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2067658/crunch_3.0-1_i386.deb which I prepared with checkinstall in order to be easier to install/uninstall![]()
I would not recommend downloading and/or using a modified install...
Best to only get it from the source at sourceforge, or wait till it hits
the repo's.
Oh I know. Not even myself would download it for an unknown source. I just compiled it for myself but I thought it could be useful to someone else.
But I guess that if you use BT you should be able to compile your own packages, especially when is a make && make install straight compilation
A system like AUR in Arch would be useful for this kind of tools to ease the burden of having the Backtrack guys from having to take care of this, especially after releasing BT5. They deserve a rest!
In anticipation of crunch being included, I have made a blogpost on the usage of crunch v3.0
(tested on 32bit versions only)
Hope in order to already post here, if not, Mods, please remove.
Creating wordlists with crunch v3.0
Of course more than willing to include this in the 'howto' section, but not sure whether applicable as yet ,
since the tool is not included at this time.
However I am not authorized to post in the HowTo as yet.. so it seems the query is one without merrit..
edit
----
perhaps the Mods could also rectify the spelling in the title from cruncn to crunch
hey, cool, I am a good friend of the forums ?! Awesome !
