    Default X doesn't start

I've downloaded Backtrack 5 KDE, 64 bit and X doesn't start at all. I've tried other methods already (fix-vesa (fix-vesa says command not found), dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and fix-splash 800 ). The notebook runs Ubuntu 64 bit just fine (since this is based on Ubuntu), and also other 64 bit *nix OSes (Gentoo and openSUSE specifically).

    check list:
    • md5 hashes match
    • burned it slowly to a dvd
    • fix-vesa[(fix-vesa says command not found)
    • dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
    • fix-splash 800

    System specs:
    HP 6910p laptop
    Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz
    4GB RAM
    Broadcom a/b/g WLAN
    Intel 82566MM Gigabit
    ATI Mobility Radeon X2300
    SoundMAX HD Audio

This is the first time that i'll run Backtrack (wonder if that helps), but i ran other linux OSes for the past 5 years. i can't say that i'm a hardcore linux expert, but i have a pretty good background of it though.

Thanks in advanced, and goodluck to the BackTrack team!

i re-upped the images with another image host, sorry about that.

    here's the error:
The XKEYBOARD keymap cimpiler (xkbcomp) reports:
    > Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols
    > Ignoring extra symbols
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
(EE) SIGMACH1P USB Keyboard: failed to initialize for relative axes.

waiting for X server to shut down. ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
i'm using an external keyboard with the laptop. seems like the error is related to the usb keyboard, but i actually did rebooted and unplugged the usb keyboard, booted BT5 again, this time no errors are shown... but still X doesn't start. it just falls back to the console.

it actually tries to load X (it says loading, with the 4 chinese characters on red bg), but after a while, it goes back to the console again.

64 bit gentoo and opensuse worked fine out of the box, same as 64 bit ubuntu. wonder why BT5 doesn't

    I got the same error...
I made an experiment with Qemu and VMWare before burn my ISO and both results are same, X doesn't start. The GNOME version seems OK (I didn't burn this one yet).
After I burnt it, X doesn't start in both my desktop PC and notebook, but Ubuntu 10.04-2 worked well with both.

My desktop PC uses an NVIDIA 9500GT graphic card with an HDMI-connected monitor. (As a comparison) it has OpenSUSE 11.4 x86_64 installed and works well with Full-HD resolution.
My notebook has ATI Radeon HD 5470, runs the same version of OpenSUSE in my PC.
