    Default BT5 : ipw2x00 firware ()

Ooops , looks like a firmware trouble with old (!) laptops.

    root@bt:~# rmmod ipw2200
    root@bt:~# modprobe ipw2200
    root@bt:~# dmesg -c

    root@bt:~# locate ipw2200-bss.fw

I'll post solutions (=where to find the right bss.fw) when I'll find it !

My machine returns these same results. I have tried downloading the v3.1 firmware and the device shows up as eth1 but doesn't function properly.

Update: I also tried v3.0 of the firmware at http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ with no luck. I'm not yet sure that the card won't connect to anything, but I cannot get it to scan.

    Hi,
    I try with a HP dv 4270 with a BT5,

modinfo ipw2200 shows version 1.2.2kmprg of driver.
so I try firmware 2.0 (http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php) with no success yet.

firmware 2.0 gives no wireless extention while 3.x gives a non working eth1.

    to be followed.

    Hi,
    I did try with the 2.1 firmware (ipw2200-fw-2.1.tar) where the 4 files : ipw-2.1-boot.fw , ipw-2.1-bss.fw , ipw-2.1-ibss.fw , ipw-2.1-ucode.fw are in /lib/firmware/

    It works ! ;-) /*also after a cold boot */

    Hope it helps !

I can't make it to work either in BT 5. Even if I start the device into monitor mode and run airmon-ng it turns off the monitor mode after a while.

Any old BT ISO works with ipw2200 out of the box?

I`ve got the same trouble. But I made that:

    1) Download 3.1 firmware and copy it to /lib/firmware/

    2) In terminal:
    Code:
    root@bt:~# rmmod ipw2200
    root@bt:~# modprobe ipw2200
    root@bt:~# reboot
    3) After that led indicator of wi-fi start blinking

    4) In terminal:
    Code:
    root@bt:~# iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    eth1 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:off/any
              Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: Not-Associated
              Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Sensitivity=8/0
              Retry limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
              Encryption key:off
              Power Management:off
              Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Here we can see new interface called "eth1"

    5) Going to Internet -> Wicd Network Manager -> Preferences ->
add "eth1" into the Wireless Interface section

Push OK -> Refresh and Here it is!

it worked with 3.1 firmware for me, i'll test for monitor mode soon
just download the firmware copy to /lib/firmware/ (removing old drivers) and than
    rmmod ipw2200
    modprobe ipw2200
    it should work
