Startx failing

Seems like BT5 really really hates me.

After spending 4 hours on isolinux and finding out that I just have to hit Enter ( I know, I know...), I ran into another problem.

After I type startx, GUI starts to loading, but never passes first icon. Instead it's aborted with following message:

Same with me. I also get to the first icon and then startx reports error.

As the fix presented by fnord0

run these:

rm /root/.kde/cache-root/icon-cache.kcache
rm /root/.kde/cache-root/plasma_theme_Volatile.kcache

and these:

rm /root/.kde/cache-bt/icon-cache.kcache
rm /root/.kde/cache-bt/plasma_theme_Volatile.kcache
rm -rf /tmp/vmware-root

Then reboot and see if its fixed. In the worst case scenario, what happened to me is that i had to run these scripts everytime i want to startx. Still trying to find a fix tho.

What version are you running, how are you running, what is your setup.

Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot about that "details".

KDE - 64 bit.
Booting via DVD. I guess it's called Normal Mode (it's not Forensics or without network).

I'm running it on gtx275, i5, 1x2 GB RAM.

I'll try with Azkrath's sugestion and see how it will go.

If you read the the other posts regarding BT5 kde version, you will find the same exact error on startx. I suggest you try gnome, it works great.

Not necessarily, for a good number of us gnome isn't even getting to the first icon. The X environment crashes as soon as "startx" is typed. We don't have an error message to debug either.

There might be hardware compatability errors. Please check it.
